The Hockey Griffens support hockey at Abingdon School and ensure that our students have the best opportunity to enjoy this exciting sport. It is run by keen hockey parents and we welcome you to our hockey community!

We are here to:

  • Raise the profile of hockey both in and outside of the school
  • Fundraise to support hockey for all who wish to play at Abingdon School
  • Ensure that the hockey side-lines offer a friendly, inclusive environment so that all parents and visitors can enjoy the sport
  • Hold an annual Hockey Griffens Awards and Fundraising Dinner as well as other social events throughout the hockey term, to unite students, coaches and parents.

Hockey already has a highly successful track record at Abingdon, recent successes include:

  • Winners of the 2024 England Schools U18 National Plate Competition
  • Finalists in the 2024 U16 Tier 2 England Hockey Finals
  • Overall winners in the 2024 U16 County Championships
  • U14 Regional Finals Semi-finalists in 2024
  • U13 and U12 success at the County Championships to qualify for the Regional Finals in both age categories in 2024
  • Strong representation at County and Regional level
  • Large numbers of pupils play at local clubs

We want to help build on this enviable level of success and foster a love of hockey that will stay with pupils long after they have left the school. In addition, we seek to hold a mix of more formal and informal get togethers to meet each other and chat about hockey!
