We know how exciting it can be to start at a new school but we also understand that it is a big step – especially for those moving to the UK from abroad. Many of our students start at Abingdon knowing very few other people and we take particular care, through our house and tutor systems, to help all our new students to settle in. Our aim throughout is to make this process as seamless as possible, both for the families and the students.

New joiners for the academic year starting in September will be provided with a comprehensive joiner pack during the preceding Easter holidays. This will help answer many of the practical questions you may have about starting at Abingdon. It includes information on joining our Abingdonian community hub, uniform lists, bus routes, how to arrange music lessons, and where appropriate, subject choice selections. Our Boarders’ Handbook, which contains practical information about boarding at Abingdon, is also sent to our full and weekly boarding students.

Students starting in the Middle School and Sixth Form will be contacted in June, prior to their September starting date, with information about which house they will be joining once they begin at Abingdon. A great deal of care is taken with house allocations, to ensure we strike the right balance across our nine senior school houses. Lower School tutor groups will be announced in the summer holidays.

Our induction programme for the students varies for each year group, and further information will be provided about this in the Summer Term.
