The Other Half provides time for students to extend their art, design or technology skills or to explore something new. We also provide boys with the opportunity to develop their coursework when they are working towards exams.
Listed below are some of the examples of clubs and activities on offer.
Architecture Club

Architecture Club
This club is for boys who have an interest in buildings of any kind from high-rise skyscrapers to tree houses and sheds! Each term we will look at architecture movements, architects and individual buildings. You will have the chance to design/make buildings in 2D and/or 3D. There will be some structure to each session and you will need to be prepared to contribute to discussions and prepare presentations for the rest of the group.
Art Skills Workshop

Art Skills Workshop
If you want to improve your skills. Then this club is for you. You will learn how to paint and draw better and you will discover new printing techniques.
Big Head Art

Big Head Art
Big Head art club is a Lower School activity where boys work in pairs or small groups to design and make huge cardboard sculptures, working using craft knives and glue guns. The finished products are wearable, and so act as an elaborate form of masks or costumes.

Design and Technology Club

Design and Technology Club
The workshop facilities are open to offer the students to develop their design and technology skills. They can either work through some existing project briefs or even develop their own to work on.
Digital Product Development

Digital Product Development
This activity provides boys with an opportunity to learn or improve their knowledge of the Computer Aided Design programme ‘Fusion 360’. The industry standard piece of software is used by commerical designers and boys will learn to create objects and designs in 3D, working towards outputting their work using the Makerbot 3D printers.
Fifth Year Drawing Club
Fifth Year Drawing Club
Drawing club is a chance for students to work on quick or sustained drawings. They are free to use a variety of materials and techniques and will be given individual help so that they can realise their intentions. There will be lots of reference materials to inspire new ways of working and we hope they produce work they are proud of.

Each week a task is set and boys will spend the session designing and building a structure that responds to the task. There is an opportunity for boys to talk about their work at the end of the session and record their creations on a powerpoint.

Scribbles in Space – Exploring Kinetic Sculpture
Scribbles in Space – Exploring Kinetic Sculpture
Through a series of practical activities and challenges students will learn how contemporary artists have used physical principles in designing kinetic sculpture. Working in pairs or individually, they will build a variety of kinetic elements, using and manipulating traditional art equipment, recycled materials, hardware and food. Students will also identify how to optimize the visual aesthetics of their works through looking at the work of the masters of kinetic sculpture.

Work alongside Ms Hancock as she develops her personal artist sketchbooks and models her artistic practice. Pick up tips and tricks on sketchbook development and presentation. Be inspired by videos from artists discussing their approach to keeping a sketchbook.
