Abingdon is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students, regardless of age, ability, race, culture, religion, gender, sexual orientation or class.

We are committed to providing a caring environment, instilled through a culture of openness and collective responsibility. The school takes all allegations of safeguarding and bullying seriously.

What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding is at the heart of pastoral care at Abingdon. It is in all that we do for the best interests of our students, enabling them to achieve their potential.

All our staff play a role in safeguarding. They ensure a safe environment in which children can flourish and learn; they are on hand to listen to any concerns a student may have; and, when matters arise, they take prompt action to ensure these are addressed.

We review our safeguarding and pastoral matters on a continual basis to reflect the ever-changing developments needed for effective safeguarding.

In addition to the wide pastoral provision for each individual, our students have access to a team of counsellors, our Health Centre and Chaplaincy teams and they can also raise any concerns anonymously and confidentially through our reporting service, Whisper.

Who can I speak to?

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We encourage all members of our community, past and present, to raise their concerns, no matter how trivial they may perceive them to be, to our Designated Safeguarding Leads via [email protected]; or through our reporting service, Whisper.
