Abingdon Touchliners is the parental support group for rugby at Abingdon School. We are there to:

  • Fundraise to support rugby for all boys who wish to play at Abingdon
  • Nurture a socially inclusive environment not only on the touchline, but before and after matches and at off site events
  • Support a local or relevant charity
  • Hold an annual Rugby Club Dinner – Saturday 16 November 2019

Rugby inspires a unique sense of camaraderie and belonging amongst players, parents and supporters that resonates both on and off the pitch. Touchliners is about encouraging and nurturing that spirit whilst supporting all of the boys in all of the teams.

As parents, we can always be found (and usually heard!) on the touchline cheering on the boys and, as an organisation, we are always happy to welcome new members. Your contribution can vary from general membership and attendance at social functions to involvement in the running of the society. We are always looking for volunteers to help out at social events and are keen to encourage as many existing and new parents to join us.

Touchliners is about rugby for all; whether your son is in the 1st Year or the Upper Sixth, one of the many E teams or the Abingdon 1st XV, we want them and you to enjoy Abingdon rugby as much as we do. Touchliners is a great way to support both the social and competitive spirits that underpin our game.

You can download a membership form which can be completed electronically and emailed to touchliners@abingdon.org.uk or printed and returned to the Director of Rugby or a member of the Touchliners committee if you prefer. Annual family membership of Touchliners is currently £45, all of which is invested in the development of rugby at Abingdon School.

If you have any questions regarding Touchliners or Touchliners events, please catch us on the touchline (just ask the most vocal Abingdon supporter!), talk to your year group representative or email us at touchliners@abingdon.org.uk.

Pre-match Socials

Pre-match drinks, anyone?

After dropping off the boys, instead of sitting in our cars, Touchliners have been known to gather in a pub near to whichever venue we’re visiting.

When we’re at the school site, we go to The Brewery Tap, a real ale pub near Abingdon town centre; when we’re at Cox’s, The Dog House in Frilford.

When we’re away, details are generally circulated by one of the regulars to the parents of those boys who are playing at the venue.

See you in the pub and THEN on the touchline!

Abingdon Touchliners Photo Library

Many parents like to have photographs of their boys in action on the rugby pitch; Touchliners has a Photobucket account that is open to all members to use and, more importantly, to upload pictures to, so parents who can’t make a match can also benefit. Just email for details, stating whether you need view only or upload access rights.
