Abingdon School Music Society is the parent body which supports musical life at Abingdon School. The committee is formed of a number of parents across the breadth of the school meeting at the start of each term to discuss future events and projects.
We raise funds through a small annual subscription, sales of refreshments at concerts as well as other fundraising events. This enables the Music Department to enhance the musical experience of the students in ways it would otherwise not be possible to do, such as funding masterclasses, buying instruments and contributing towards music tours. Masterclasses funded by ASMS last year included a vocal masterclass and concert with Mark Stone, a cello masterclass with Robert Max and later in the year renowned Harry The Piano came to Abingdon to provide three workshops and an impressive concert which drew quite a crowd. Instrument purchases last year have included a Roland Keyboard, a Double Bass and a contribution towards new Chapel Choir folders.
ASMS also helped run the hugely successful inaugural Cabaret event in the school’s new Pavillion in March 2024! Future plans include fundraising towards the next exciting European Orchestra and Big Band tour to Czechia in July 2025.
If you could spare the time to join ASMS and help support the wonderful work that the Music Department does, please contact the Music Secretary via email who will provide you with further details.
