Our School Chaplain offers pastoral care and guidance to pupils, staff, and parents, providing a compassionate listening ear and offering spiritual guidance through all of life’s ups and downs.
Pupils are supported in exploring Christian values in their daily lives through optional Confirmation classes and extracurricular Chaplaincy groups. Weekly Chapel services are designed to be inclusive, accessible, and welcoming for all, whether pupils attend as active participants or reflective observers, and regardless of whether they hold a Christian faith, belong to another religion, or have no faith background. To further support our diverse community, the school also provides a dedicated Multi-faith Prayer Room.
Throughout the academic year, the school marks key calendar events with special services for Remembrance Day, Christmas, and Easter, alongside regular evening services for our boarding community. Our flourishing Chapel Choir forms an integral part of this worship tradition, regularly performing at prestigious venues such as Westminster Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral, and Oxford College Chapels. Parents are warmly invited to join the school community for many of these flagship occasions, including our popular Carol Services (details are shared via weekly school communications).
Founded in 1256, Abingdon School’s Christian foundation inspires a welcoming community built on kindness, service, and respect. As part of this longstanding tradition, members of the wider Abingdon community with a long standing connection to the school, including alumni, current and former staff, may apply to hold their wedding in the School Chapel via a Special Licence, arranged with the support of the Chaplain.
