Abingdon School Music Society is the parent body which supports musical life at Abingdon School. The committee is formed of a number of parents across the breadth of the school, we meet at the start of each term to discuss future musical events and which projects we can support.

We raise funds through a small annual subscription, sales of refreshments at concerts as well as other fundraising events. This enables the Music Department to enhance the musical experience in ways that would not be possible otherwise. We host the new annual Cabaret performance in the Pavilion where we have a black tie evening meal and wonderful music from Big Band and vocal soloists – a magical evening!

The main focus of ASMS is funding a wide variety of masterclasses across a great range of instruments with world-renowned soloists to really encourage the best from our musicians. In the last year these have included the fabulous jazz group the Tom Green Septet who worked with the Big Band, Paul Harris for woodwind, Leo Popplewell for cello, Sebastian Müller for violin, Ben Schoeman for piano, Tom Richards for saxophone, Craig Ogden for guitar and Miguel Gorodi for trumpet. We also funded the new condensing microphone which will be invaluable for live performances especially at the Cabaret and Open Mic Night.

In September we had a truly inspiring Sunday with the Wantage Silver Band with around 40 pupils playing along with this incredibly talented top-notch brass band. A fantastic sound!

If you could spare the time to join ASMS and help support the wonderful work that the Music Department does, please contact the Music Secretary via email who will provide you with further details.
