From the Headmaster to all parents:
Dear Parents,
I enjoyed catching up with students and parents at last night’s Careers Convention, which was hosted by OLA for students from OLA, SHSK and Abingdon. This is a fantastic opportunity for students from these three schools to get an insight into a wide range of careers. I am grateful to those of you who volunteered to represent various careers at the event. It would be impossible without the enthusiasm and commitment of parents and former students.
The Careers Convention is just one part of our After Abingdon programme which is designed to ensure that students can make informed choices as they move through the School so that they are prepared for the world of work and study after school. Mr Triff, our Head of Career Guidance, is always happy to meet students on an individual basis to discuss career options and he welcomes enquiries from parents too (about their child’s career options, not their own…). These conversations can be invaluable if students are struggling with option choices or if they are finding it difficult to establish a sense of direction or even if they just want to confirm that they are on the right path. You can contact Mr Triff directly at [email protected].
Best wishes, Mike Windsor

Music:
- Congratulations to the U14 Piano Trio (Ryan Ng, Yubo Gao, Thomas Zhang), who have won places at the prestigious Finals Concert of the Pro Corda National Chamber Music Festival. They will perform alongside other top ensembles at Millfield School on Sunday 13 March.
- Solo Platform No 4 – Wednesday 16 March at 6pm, CMR – We look forward to welcoming you to next week’s concert, the programme for which can be found here.
- Stephen Venables – Life After Everest – Wednesday 16 March at 7:30pm – “What on earth do you do after that?” is the usual question once you climb a new route up Everest, reaching the top alone and without oxygen. For Stephen Venables, that historic success was just a cue for different experiences – new Himalayan peaks, arctic dog-sledging, film-making, desert journeys and fifteen sailing voyages to the snow mountains of Antarctica. In this slideshow, Stephen will share the fun, excitement, beauty – and the personal tragedies – that make his life a continuing adventure.

Withdrawal of accident and emergency dental insurance
The School has recently been informed that unfortunately Denplan is ceasing to offer its Accident and Emergency Insurance dental cover from the end of this academic year. The product will close on 31 August 2022 and the termly charge of £4.99 will be removed from your Autumn term 2022 bill if your child has been enrolled in the insurance.
Currently the School is unable to offer any alternative to this scheme. We have looked for an alternative product at a similar cost but unfortunately we have been unsuccessful in finding anything suitable.
However, please note that every pupil in the Abingdon Foundation already has some dental injury insurance as part of the personal accident insurance that is in place for all pupils and included in school fees. Please see section 5 on page 1 of this link for further details of the cover for dental injury that is already in place for all pupils. If you would like additional emergency dental cover then this needs to be arranged by yourself from an independent provider.
For the avoidance of doubt, any claims that are already in progress with Denplan can continue to claim for any treatment incurred as a result of the original incident in accordance with the terms of the policy.
Should you have any questions about this topic please contact Michelle Robinson.
