Third Year PSHCE lessons

Wednesday 20 May sees the annual Sex and Relationship Education Day for boys in the Third Year. This year we have a visit from Loudmouth Theatre Company who will present “Trust Me”, a lively theatre in education programme that helps young people aged 13 upwards to learn about relationships and sexual health issues such as sexually transmitted infections, contraception and unplanned pregnancy. In addition, pupils will take part in a series of workshops will take place covering topics such as young men's health, STIs and contraception. If you have any queries or would like to discuss anything regarding this, please contact Mr Ben Phillips, Head of PSHCE.

Leavers' Day and Prize Giving: Saturday 27 June

Parents of all leavers and prize winners are invited to the Prize Giving at 11.00am and the reception afterwards. Boys in the Lower School, Middle School and Lower Sixth are not expected in School for these events unless they are prize winners. Prize Giving is preceded by the Leavers' Service in St Michael's Church, Park Road at 9.30am. Parents are most welcome at this service, which is optional for the leavers. Further details for those wishing to come to Prize Giving will be sent out via this mailing after half term.

A Midsummer Night's Dream….sort of…

Shakespeare'e timeless comedy is given a makeover in this abbreviated version by the members of Abingdon's Lower School Drama Club. “It's Shakespeare, Jim, but not as we know it”. Fast, furious and full of storytelling fun, this will be a roller-coaster fifty minutes for all the family. Performances are at 7:00pm on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 May in the Amey Theatre. Tickets are free and can be booked here from 9:00am on Monday 11 May.

New boarders arrive – Sunday 6 September
First Year induction and induction for Sixth Form boarders and Sixth Form new boys – Monday 7 September
Boarders return – Monday 7 September
Term begins – Tuesday 8 September

NPLQ Lifeguarding Course 

A National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course is being held at Abingdon School Sports Centre. The course will run from Monday 20 to Friday 24 July 2015. The NPLQ is an internationally recognised qualification which is valid for 2 years from the completion date. The course will cover vital lifesaving skills, CPR, first aid, pool rescue techniques and how to use and AED. You must be 16 years old and in good health and fitness to attend this course. The course will run 9.00-18.00 Monday to Friday with each day split into two sessions; theoretical/classroom based activities and a 2 hour pool session. Upon the successful completion of the exam there is the opportunity of working in the sports centre on certain shifts. The cost of the course is £275 and all course materials will be provided. All participants will be required to wear shorts and t-shirt whilst completing the pool sessions.
