The senior tennis IV has advanced to the third round of the National Tennis Championships. The players came through a challenging first round against Radley College prevailing 8-4 after an excellent display in both doubles rubbers. Round two against old foes Magdalen College School followed swiftly and despite a number of matches going to final set tiebreaks, Abingdon prevailed 10-2. Thanks to Archie, Max, Sam and Matt who have secured these early victories.

Saturday also saw the first of our block fixtures with Radley with the annual Radlingdon competition taking centre stage. Abingdon dealt the first early blows winning the majority of first round matches placing most pairs in the main draw rather than plate. After 5 very competitive rounds of tennis it was a Radley 1 vs Abingdon 1 (Archie and Monty) final in the main draw. Unfortunately the effects of 5 full sets were telling for our first pair including a very close 7-6 in the quarter finals vs Abingdon 3 (Max and Fred) and Radley were victorious 6-4 in the main draw. It was also an Abingdon (Ollie and Tommy) Radley final in the plate. Unfortunately the 4th year pair of Ollie and Tommy succumbed to the excellent doubles play of their more senior Radley opponents.

A great start to the season and we look forward to the next round of the National Cup as well as the commencement of the Year 9/10 (National Finalists 2023) and Year 7/8 national competition in the coming weeks.
