Nearly 40 science technicians from schools all over Oxfordshire visited the Yang Science Centre for a day of workshops and talks organised through the Oxfordshire Science Learning Partnership. There were a variety of different activities, both hands on practical work and seminars on safety and legal issues.

During breaks, exhibitors from several, leading science equipment companies were on hand to demonstrate apparatus and discuss practical issues. Workshops included electrical repairs, physics demonstrations and 'exciting chemistry' run by Abingdon School technicians Grant Baldwin and Cecilia Coates. There was a palpable buzz of enthusiasm throughout the day and a fantastic, two-way exchange of tips and ideas between technicians who often work alone or in very small teams and rarely get such a fantastic opportunity for discussions with other colleagues.

Organisers of the event, Clare Hamnett and Jacqueline Merrett from Oxford Spires Academy, were full of praise for the support from the ASP and Abingdon School, particularly our own fantastic technician team, support staff and caterers who all contributed to the day.
