Week 7 of the football season was yet another busy one, despite the cancellation of four fixtures, Wednesday saw ten Abingdon sides take to the field against Oratory School. Starting with the U14s, the A side came up against a different opposition to those played so far this year, and will have certainly learnt from their defeat, whilst the U14 Bs secured a hard fought 3-2 win. The U15 As continued their excellent run of form with another victory, whilst unfortunately the U15 Bs suffered a defeat. In the U16s Ade Adebutu scored 4 in the Bs 6-0 victory against their Oratory opposition, whilst a Jamie Masters goal secured a 1-1 draw for the U16 As.

Moving into the seniors, and the 4th XI maintain title contenders in the Thames Valley Football League after their 7-0 win, Billy Hickman scoring three, whilst the 3rd XI won 4-0. A highly impressive performance for the 2nd XI on Waste Court saw them put four past Oratory 2nd XI securing a 4-0 win. Over at Tilsley Park the Football Club were delighted to have Premiership referee Graeme Scott officiating their game against Oratory 1st XI, and a patient, measured and professional performance saw the Abingdon side gain a highly convincing 3-0 win.

On the same afternoon the Lower School sides make the short journey across to The Dragon School with the U12s yet again demonstrating their potential with a convincing win for the As and an 8-0 win for the Bs. Despite suffering a defeat the U13s again showed pleasing progress since their last outing, and I am sure a result in their favour is just around the corner.

Moving onto the weekend, and Saturday morning saw the U16 sides welcome MCS, with the U16 Bs securing a 2-2 draw, whilst the U16 As will feel they could have left with more, suffering a narrow 1-2 defeat. At the same time the rest of the Middle School took on the challenge of Cokethorpe School. On Waste Court the U14s came away with a 2-2 draw ruing a number of missed opportunities, whilst the U14 Bs made it two wins in 4 days with a 4-1 win. The U15 Cs enjoyed there first outing in a while and battled well against the U15 Bs from Cokethorpe School despite suffering a narrow 0-1 defeat, whilst Hector Chambers' hatrick secured a 4-0 win for the U15 As at Tilsley Park.

Over at Cokethorpe School the senior sides knew they would be up for a tough morning, which made the 3rd XI’s 5-1 win a terrific result with 4 goals from William Pearson. Unfortunately the 2nd XI came off second best, losing 0-1 in a physical 2nd team encounter from which, on other occasions, they will feel that they could have left with more. Finally, a slow start from the 1st XI meant they were backs to the wall at 3-0 down early in the second half. A free kick from Joe Lilley and close range finish from Angus Williams gave Abingdon the ascendency with 8 minutes to go, however on this occasion they simply couldn’t find a third. The game finishing 2-3.

The Football Club now looks forward to welcoming Stowe to Waste Court on Wednesday and then a full block fixture against Bedford Modern on Saturday.

Thank you for your continued support on the touchline.
