Solo Concert Platform No 1

27 September 2019

The fourth Tuesday of term provided us with an opportunity to hear seven excellent solo performances from a range of talented musicians representing woodwind, strings and piano.

We started with talented musician, Ashwin Tennant, in a commanding performance of Mozart’s Violin Concerto in D. Jamie Robson (piano) followed with Chopin’s Prelude in B minor, which he played with confidence.

Josef O’Connor played us Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto finale with tremendous dexterity ad considerable musical maturity and Andreas Lo performed CPE Bach’s Solfegietto with even passagework and a mature technique. Next, we heard Alfie Luo in a fluent performance of Bach’s Minuet no 3, proving the great strides he has made with the viola in less than a year’s tuition.

The last two items comprised Klengel’s Concertino for cello, which demonstrated Hugo Payton’s musical range and considerable musicality, and Will Bywater (piano), who brought things to a conclusion with Schumann’s Warum from Faschingsschwank aus Wien.

Our thanks must go to all our performers this evening and their accompanists, Mariette Pringle and Lynette Stulting. It was a great to see such accomplished playing so early in the academic year.
