On Wednesday 24 March 2010 a hockey match was played between the Abingdon School 1st XI and a team of Old Abingdonians. This took place at Tilsley Park and was preceded by a lunch for the players of both teams in the Sports Centre Hospitality Suite at School.
The event was a huge success with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere pervading the entire afternoon. The match itself was hgihly contested, with a very high standard of skill demonstrated by both teams. After a closely fought battle, the current 1st XI managed to pull ahead at the end of the match, making the score a very close 3-2 to the current boys.
The OA team consisted of Andrew Cole, Henry Cole, Chris Cowan, Alex Francis, Dominic Roche, Nathan Monk (Abingdon coaching staff), Seb Wilson, Rhys Cadman (Captain), Tom Scrase, Gareth Cadman. The current Abingdon School 1st XI were represented by Edward Howe, Callum Keown, Jonathan Bourchier, Nat Watkins, Joshua Smith (Captain), James Francis, Gregor Hearne and Chris Green. The goalkeepers were both current pupils, Freddie Howe and Toby Blong.
Special thanks must go to Steve Brenchley, without whose support and advice the event would have been impossible.
