On Tuesday 28 April, it was a great privilege to welcome Julian Hellaby to adjudicate the advanced final of the Young Musician of the Year competition. This was the culmination of our new House music competition and featured 14 performances from across the instrumental and vocal spectrum. With performances of Bach arias, concerto movements, improvised jazz to virtuosic showcase works, this was a wonderful evening of music making. Special mention should go to Ben for his performance of Kapustin’s ‘Prelude’ from Eight Concert Etudes which earned him third place, whilst Adrian’s atmospheric interpretation of the ‘Largo’ from Shostakovich’s Cello Sonata in D Minor gave him the runner up prize. Fresh from his Easter residency with the NYO, Louis was crowned the inaugural winner of the Advanced category of the Young Musician of the year for a superb and virtuosic performance of the Rondo from Weber’s Bassoon Concerto.
