To parents of Second Year boys – Parents' Evening
Notices:
Safer Internet Day, Tuesday 9 February 2016 – from the Deputy Head (Pastoral)
Tuesday is Safer Internet Day. Clearly we are all aware of concerns that the internet can prompt, but this year the theme is “Play Your Part for a Better Internet,” trying to focus on using the internet positively.
As ever, I would encourage you to use this as a prompt for a conversation with your son about the internet, and how he uses it. The idea behind this year's theme is to ask him what he loves about the internet. Perhaps ask him to show you a funky app on his phone or iPad, or get him to show you how to share an e-calendar, or even ask him to show you his favourite YouTube vlogger. Whatever you chose as a conversation starter, I would encourage you to engage with him about his virtual world, as too often the internet can be something that divides generations rather than bringing them together.
Further useful information for parents can be found here. Parents may also wish to have a look at this video, which goes into detail on the digital universe of your children. Finally, there is a very powerful recent BBC documentary on online grooming and gaming that I would recommend: the link is here.
Parents of 4th Year studying French – French exchange May 2016
The possibility to host two French pupils (both female) has become available. The French party will be staying with us during term time between Friday 6 May and Friday 13 May 2016. This will not disrupt your son’s timetable, as the French party will be going on visits during the day or staying at school with us to attend a few lessons. Your involvement during this part of the exchange will be to look after a French pupil. If you think that you might be interested or if you have any questions or queries please contact Maud Cottrell by email I will be happy to assist.
