Open Day: Saturday 1 October

A further reminder and update about the civic event scheduled for Abingdon town centre this Saturday.  We are now informed that a Freedom of Abingdon parade will be taking place. Road closures will be in force in the centre of Abingdon between 10.30 and 12.  We have arranged additional visitor parking to serve the north entrance to the School from Faringdon Road in the light of the town centre disruption. We hope that this map will prove helpful since it indicates the two visitor parking areas (north and south) which will operate on Saturday.   We are very sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Open Day runs from 9.30 until 12.30. All boys, EXCEPT first years who are not involved in an activity such as an orchestra or band, are expected to attend and should arrive at School no later than 8.45 am to register before beginning their Open Day activities. Request for absence on this day should, as usual, be made to the housemaster, as for a single weekday absence. For boys who use the joint bus service, all the morning routes will be operating the weekday schedule running 30 minutes later than usual. For the return journey, the weekday 5.20pm service will depart on all usual routes from the coach park at 1.00pm. Please may we ask parents who will be driving their son to school on Saturday to use Park Crescent as the drop off point (and not Park Road).

Information for Parents – Policies

Parents are reminded that School Policies are available under the “Administration” menu of the website. They are reviewed and updated from time to time.

Abingdon Foundation Prayer Group

Abingdon and St. Helen’s school both have thriving parents and staff prayer groups which support their schools by Christian Prayer. The first meeting of the year is a joint one and is hosted this year by St. Helen's. You are warmly invited to join parents and staff from Abingdon, Abingdon Prep and SHSK to meet members of the groups, the Chaplains, find out about Christian activities and hear a talk from a chair of Governors and former head teacher, David Aston on Thursday 13 October 2016 at 7.45pm in the Science Atrium, St. Helen's School. The event is free and refreshments are provided. For more information contact Carl Savage on 01235 539226 or [email protected] or register at http://www.shsk.org.uk/Home/Record-Response.aspx?ID=C09C2AEE-4B50-4C69-BECD-109FE1CD07C7  (links through to St.Helen’s website).

Abingdon School is a Nut Free School

We have several boys who have a serious nut allergy that can cause anaphylaxis. Even small traces of nuts on the hands of someone else can be enough to cause a reaction. For this reason we would like to remind everyone that nuts must not be brought into school.

Music

The Music Society AGM and Scholars’ & Soloists Concert No.1 is on Wednesday 5 October at 5.45pm in the CMR. This is the first musical event of the year, which will be preceded by a 15 minute AGM of the parent support group, ASMS (Abingdon School Music Society).  We will hear brief reports of the society’s activity from the Chairman, Treasurer and Director of Music before hearing a range of solo performances from our music scholars’ and senior musicians.  Do join us – we should be finished well before 8pm.
