Parents of Exam Candidates

Candidates have been given their individual exam pack this week. Included in the packs are personal timetables, clash resolution (if relevant), exam guidelines and a fees sheet. The candidates have been asked to pass the fees sheet to parents, this is for reference only as the charges will be added to you next bill.'

Lower School Football Awards Evening 

As a finale to this year’s football season, all Lower School football players and their parents are warmly invited to attend the Lower School Football Club Awards Evening, to be held on Thursday 17 March 2016 at 6.45pm. The evening will provide a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the progress and success of the boys this season, and more information can be found on the following poster. Football Club End Of Season Dinner 

Tickets are also still available for the Abingdon School Football Club Awards Dinner, open to 3rd, 4th and 6th form players and parents. We are delighted that Old Abingdonian and current Premiership Referee Graham Scott will be our guest of honour for the evening, during which we will be celebrating the success of the boys this season. Please see the invitation for further information and tickets can be purchased through the Box Office. 

For the attention of Fifth Year Parents – Forthcoming Immunisation

Your sons have an assembly on Monday informing them about their forthcoming Men ACWY that is due. You will receive a consent form today from your son. Please could this be returned next week.

World Book Day

To mark World Book Day Thursday 3 March 2016, Lower School students will be hearing critically-acclaimed author Tayna Landman, winner of the 2015 Carnegie medal, talk about her latest book, Hell and High Water (described by the Times as “gripping” and “impeccable”). Tayna won the 2015 Carnegie Medal for her novel Buffalo Soldier and every student will also receive a £1 World Book Day voucher, which can be exchanged for a free World Book Day title or put towards a book purchase from local bookshops.

John Piper – Pioneer & Master of modern stained glass

John Piper, the English painter, printmaker and designer of stained-glass windows is known as the founder of modern British stained glass. The Rev’d Ian Browne was Senior Chaplain of Oundle School, where he was the guardian of Piper’s first stained glass in the School Chapel.

Music

Keble College Evensong – Monday 29 February, 6pm – Chapel choir parents should now be aware of arrangements for Evensong at Keble College, Oxford on Monday.

Music Theory Exam – Wednesday 2 March, 5pm – A reminder that the Grade 5 Music Theory exam takes place next Wednesday in A214, Music School.  Boys should remember to attend the exam at 4.50pm (10 minutes before the exam is due to begin).  Please remember to bring pencils, and a rubber. Please note Grade 5 exams last 2 hours so candidates should be collected at 7.00pm.

Music Scholars’ & Soloists’ Concert  – Wednesday 2 March, Amey Theatre, 6pm – Parents are warmly invited to come and hear a group of Music Scholars and senior musicians in solo performances.  Admission is free.

Pro Corda 2nd Round  – Wednesday 2 March – SHSK, 9.15-12pm – We are awaiting times for the five ensembles that have won through to the semi-finals and boys will be notified individually.

Light in Darkness – Choral Concert inspired by the life of Skye Hall

All welcome.  Light in Darkness is a fundraising concert inspired by the life of Skye Hall. It will include choral works by Harris, Tavener, Poulenc and Ponniah. Entry is free, but there will be a retiring collection for Blue Skye Thinking. It will take place on Saturday 12 March at 8pm in Abingdon School Chapel. Further information: www.abingdon.org.uk/future_events

Skip in Park Road

While there is a skip in Park Road, please take great care when approaching this section of the road.  When travelling from the School end of Park Road drivers may need to STOP before the skip to allow oncoming traffic to proceed safely.
