WEEKLY MAILING

Message from the Headmaster

Dear Parents

This week we look forward to the Joint Choral Society’s performance of The Creation by Haydn which will take place in the Amey Theatre at 7.30pm on Friday 18 November. This oratorio describes the creation of the world and is packed with famous tunes and rousing chorales. The Joint Choral Society features musicians from Abingdon, Headington and SHSK and it will be exciting to hear the result of their hard work and preparation over the term. My study is right next to the Chapel so I have the privilege of eavesdropping on choir rehearsals. I hope our students won’t mind if I comment that the progression of rehearsals has mirrored the creation itself, moving from a rather inchoate mass to a world of harmony and light! I will be relishing the performance from the ranks of the double bass section and I hope many parents will be able to join us.

Our focus in school this week has also been on national anti-bullying week and on International Men’s Day, which falls on Saturday 19 November. I’m grateful to our Sixth Form Peer Support Leads who prepared a fantastic video about the damage that bullying can do, which has been shared with all year groups. The theme of International Men’s Day this year is ‘Helping Men & Boys’ and so our focus has been on encouraging students to think about ways they can help one another proactively, based on the values of respect and kindness which underpin our collective life in school.

Best wishes, Mike Windsor

WHOLE SCHOOL

  • Bank Holiday Monday 8 May 2023
Recently this date was declared a Bank Holiday to mark the King’s coronation.  The School will be closed for day pupils, but our boarding houses will remain open.  The bronze DofE walking practice will be moved to the following Sunday 14 and Monday 15 May.  The bronze canoeing has been moved to Sunday 21 and Monday 22 May.
  • Students leaving the site during the school day
Could we please ask that parents contact their Housemaster, Tutor and [email protected] in advance if students need to leave school during the day.  Students leaving the school site for appointments must please also sign out in B210 (the late registration office next to Chapel).  They must not sign out at Park Lodge or Faringdon Lodge.  Please let your child know that if they do not follow these procedures they leave themselves open to the possibility of a sanction.  Many thanks in advance for your help with this.  Mark Hindley, Deputy Head Pastoral
