Over 400 local primary school children and staff were invited to the Amey Theatre to take part in the launch of ‘Weather, Camera, Action’, a book for 7-11 year olds written by Channel 4’s weather presenter, Liam Dutton. Liam discussed his life, career and writing the book on stage with Jeremy Taylor, Abingdon Arts Partnership Lead, as well as answering questions from children in the audience. After growing up in Cardiff, Liam studied Geography at university and was then fortunate to get his first job at the BBC Weather Centre. He worked for the BBC for a number of years before moving to Channel 4 in 2011. One of Liam’s most famous broadcasts was when he achieved his personal ambition of reporting the weather at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, a village on Anglesey in Wales. A YouTube video of this currently has over 60 million views. Liam’s visit to the Amey Theatre ended with a book signing for some of the children and schools in the audience hosted by the Mostly Books bookshop and Liam’s publishers, Bonnier. The event was so well received by everyone involved that Bonnier hope to bring more authors to Abingdon for similar events in the very near future.
