On Friday night, we had Austrian violinist, Sebastian Mueller, returning for a third time to give another inspiring violin and viola masterclass. He opened the evening with two short pieces, Fratres by Pärt on the violin, and then the first movement of Glinka’s viola sonata.
After the recital, he continued with individual lessons on the violin and viola. The masterclass focussed on the importance of a proper bow-hold as well as left hand positions, emphasising the significance of technique to be able to produce a beautiful sound on the instrument. He demonstrated very clearly, and had wonderful ways of improving the pupils’ technique immediately. Through it all, he gave very constructive feedback and guidance, always making sure that the audience also understood. It was an evening filled with beautiful music and valuable lessons, making it a night to remember for all who attended.
