Congratulations to George Carver who picked up the first prize in this year’s High Sheriff of Oxfordshire's Law Lecture Essay Competition. He has won £100 plus a week’s work experience at Freeths solicitors. Congratulations also go to German Baraev who came second, winning £100 and the opportunity to visit court with a retired Judge.
The essay competition followed the annual High Sheriff’s Law Lecture in October given by Michael Beloff QC and titled “Can Sport do without the Law?”. Students were asked to write an essay exploring the concepts presented in this prestigious lecture.
Speaking about the competition, the High Sheriff, Richard Venables said, “This year’s Law Lecture explored an interesting area of law which is particularly topical given new technologies such as VAR and the ongoing issues of drug testing which all have legal implications. I am delighted Abingdon has excelled in this competition this year and hopefully it puts a spotlight on law as a possible career path.’
