The Shine Media Awards announced the winners for this year and The Martlet has swept the board, winning Best Overall Content, Best Newspaper and also Best Front Cover. It is the first time the paper has won the first two awards and the second year running for the ‘Best Front Cover’. Emma Williamson, who oversees The Martlet, also received a Highly Commended for the Most Inspirational Teacher.
The awards are judged by ex-editors and designers at The Daily Mail, Evening Standard, and Spectator among others.
Judges’ comments included:
‘The judges were unanimous in declaring this newspaper outstanding for its coverage, design and editorial clarity.’ (Best Newspaper)
‘Whatever your interests, it would be impossible not to enjoy The Martlet. Although global subjects are thoughtfully explored, the editors keep in mind its role as a school magazine’ (Best Content).
In the past we have been accused of being a little dry (!) so the boys were really thrilled by these comments.
