The U18 1st VIII played exceptionally well against Radley and Magdalen College School in the 2019 OXIST tournament. They placed first, despite a worrying comeback from MCS in the 3rd round, and won the trophy for this year. Seeing as how we narrowly lost to MCS in the ISL league this was an incredibly satisfying result. Well done chaps! The U15s and U14s also participated and it was great to see such effort and commitment from the boys. Despite some great shots they were unfortunately pipped to the post by both Radley and MCS. I am sure that they will come back fighting next year.

On Tuesday 11th June the U15 VIII went to the smashing grounds at Eton for the Eton Junior Pairs Championship. This year we took a team of 4 from the 4th Year as well as a team of 4 from Lower School. The lads were up against some stiff competition! The tournament hosts 32 teams and includes the likes of Eton, Reeds, Bradfield and St George's College.

Both teams won their first matches and progressed into the next round. Following that there were some hard fought but difficult matches against Eton and Bradfield where, despite some excellent play, the lads couldn't quite break though. Never the less the boys placed 14th and 15th out of 32. I am very pleased with the performance of the boys but want to pay particular respects to the Lower School team who were playing boys twice their height and three times their ages. To place in the top half of the competition at that age suggests that Abingdon Tennis will continue to be strong in the coming years.
