Agape, our partner charity in Moldova, has been working hard during the current pandemic to make a difference to those Moldovan families who are most in need of support. Children without access to technology have struggled to have any form of education since schools were forced to close and many families have not been able to buy the supplies they need. Using money raised by a group of sixth formers through a sponsored event last term, Agape has been able to support 100 families in five different villages with school equipment, cleaning and hygiene supplies, and some smartphones to enable children to connect to their online lessons. These were all distributed in time for the start of the new academic year.

It is difficult for me to describe in words the joy on the happy faces of the children and parents who received the supplies we bought with Abingdon’s donation. We want you to know how much we appreciate the unique educational partnership that exists between Abingdon School and Moldova and Agape.” Nicu Bocaneala, Director of Agape

This help with smartphones will make it easier for parents to start the new school year, because when the training was done remotely, not all students were connected online. No less important are the school supplies and the hygiene products that are an urgent need of every family for a better wellbeing and health. We are very grateful for the generosity you have shown in supporting the education and youth of the Republic of Moldova.” Toma Maria, Professor at the Theoretical High School “Gheorghe Palade” in Puhoi

During the 3 months of online school, I was rarely able to connect to classes due to the lack of a computer and internet access. Now, I seem to be dreaming! I didn’t think that I would ever be able to have a high-performance smartphone that would help me to have access to lessons and resources on the internet. Thank you very much to those who thought of us.” Violeta from Zimbreni
