Looking after our environment is a cause close to the hearts of Abingdon students so, having run an eco awareness week with neighbouring school, St Helen and St Katharine, establishing a student led Eco Committee seemed a natural next step.

Now, our students meet regularly throughout the year to develop ideas of how both individuals and the School can reduce their carbon footprint. These are then taken to the School Environmental Committee to implement if practical.

So far, there have been some fantastic and innovative ideas – including identifying spaces within School which can be turned into natural habitats for wildlife and wildflowers; suggesting to the School’s catering team that biodegradable sandwich bags should be used; and that condiment bottles should replace sachet packets of ketchup!
