Last Wednesday we went to Marlborough to compete in the first round of the senior National Schools competition. We were up against tough opposition in our group, drawing two of the top squash schools in the country, Wycliffe and Millfield. Our team (Alex Smith, Max Struthers, Joe Betts, Max Sheppard, Jai Biswas Gladwin and Miguel Ferreira) played some thoroughly impressive squash against some of the best players in the country. We were not able to pull off a miracle on this occasion, but it was a great experience, and we look forward to competing for the National Shield next term.
On Saturday we travelled through a storm to play Stowe. Our B team played first: Miguel Ferreira, Sam Dominic, Alex Kleinknecht, Wilf Barter and Will Simpson all played very fine squash to overwhelm their opponents comprehensively, only dropping one game between them. Our A team (Alex Smith, Max Struthers, Joe Betts, Max Sheppard and Jai Biswas Gladwin) was also very impressive against some strong opposition. Alex narrowly lost out against their impressive number one, but everyone else won convincingly to take an emphatic victory in the last fixture of the term.
