Abingdon’s squash season began on 26 September with an away match against St Edward’s. The team consisted of Alex Smith, making his debut for the school at No 1, Felix Loeffen, Max Struthers, Joe Betts, Jai Biswas Gladwin and Max Sheppard. The whole team played disciplined, accurate squash and were much too strong for their opponents; everyone won their game comfortably for a victory that was never in doubt.

The second match took place on 13 October when we hosted RGS High Wycombe, traditionally a very strong squash school. We were unlucky that Felix was off ill, but Miguel Ferreira and Marc Sheriff stepped in to join Alex, Max, Joe, Max and Jai. Marc on his debut ended up playing the RGS number 2, and although he lost the match he played some excellent squash. Jai as captain won his match in style, as did Miguel. Alex and Max Sheppard lost close games, both playing some outstanding squash; but Max Struthers and Joe Betts came on to win their games convincingly and clinched the result for Abingdon.

All players have begun the season training hard and competing in good spirit. We look forward to the national competitions beginning in the second half of term.
