Abingdon’s KS4 team took a great stride forward in the National Schools Championships last week. Having previously qualified for the second stage of the championships, we took on three outstanding schools in Aylesbury, Eton and Wycliffe (a squash academy and multiple national champions). Alex Smith, Felix Loeffen, Alex Kleinknecht, Luke Remmington, Will Simpson and Wilf Barter stepped up to play their best tournament yet. We won each match overall by three games to two, and after counting up the points in the complex scoring system – which takes all the individual games into account – we came top of the group, beating Eton into second place by 34 points to 33. It was particularly satisfying that every boy was a vital part of the eventual victory. We have now qualified for the National Finals at the end of March, having earned our place as one of the top eight squash schools in the country.

Congratulations to the team, and thanks as ever to our brilliant coach Ben Rosec.
