Last week saw over 1000 students and staff take to the footpaths and bridleways of South Oxfordshire as part of the biennial Sponsored Walk. This event has been running at Abingdon for over 30 years and after being postponed for a year has returned with record numbers taking part.
The walkers covered a 10 mile stretch taking in parts of the Oxfordshire Greenbelt Way and The Thames Path. The worst of the rain that was forecast held off and students completed the route in good time. Some of the fastest runners were back at school in less than an hour and 15 minutes.
Students and staff have been collecting sponsorship for two charities SSNAP and Agape. Agape, a Christian NGO based in Moldova, and Abingdon School have worked in partnership for over 20 years and the School has undertaken fundraising for their work on a regular basis. Much of this money has been used to support projects in the village of Ialoveni, especially providing equipment for Grigore Vieru School. Supporting the Sick Newborn And their Parents (SSNAP) works alongside the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital supporting parents and raising funds for specialist medical equipment as well as life changing research.
We are still welcoming donations via this link and are making good progress towards our £40,000 target.
