Twelve sixth form Spanish students went with their teachers to the Young Vic theatre in London to see a production of the famous play Blood Wedding (Bodas de sangre) by Federico García Lorca. This English-language version of the infamous love triangle story had been relocated from rural Spain to rural Ireland, which gave rise to an interesting discussion on the way back about the cultural similarities and differences between the two countries. Teachers and students alike were gripped by the passion and intensity of the performance and the sombre atmosphere – and there was a surprising twist on the ending for those who are studying the play for Pre-U.
