It was a red carpet occasion this afternoon for members of the Abingdon Film Unit as they attended the premiere of their short film in support of Sobell House. In the company of AFU tutor Duncan Pickstock and Headmaster Michael Windsor, filmmakers Charlie Landells (U6), Freddie Marshall (3rd year) and Scott Thomson (5th year) posed for the Oxford Mail’s photographer before presenting their film to an appreciative audience of Sobell staff, patients and supporters.
AFU director Jeremy Taylor spoke about the AFU’s origins and the key example of its founder, documentarist and OA Michael Grigsby, whose films focused on those at the margins of society. Duncan Pickstock explained how hard it is to make a film, especially one in the challenging environment of a hospice, and how important it is for our filmmakers to offer their skills in support of others. Finally, OA and Radiohead member Philip Selway spoke on film about his appreciation of the film, and the important work of Sobell House.
