Last Thursday, several of our post-grade 8 musicians played in our Senior Instrumental Competition, adjudicated by Professor George Caird, oboist and former principal of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

The students, ranging from 2nd Years to Sixth Formers played a wide range of music including confident string performances from Yubo Gao and Ryan Ng, well articulated woodwind playing from Dilan Mandalia, Oliver Glover and Louis de Chazal, and several pianists including Thomas Zhang, Walter Liu, and Daniel Zhang. Professor Caird offered some insightful comments on each of the performances highlighting their strengths and identifying some targeted areas for development. He particularly emphasised the incredibly high quality of all the playing.

Professor Caird awarded 3rd place to Oliver Glover, 2nd place to Ryan Ng and 1st place to Walter Liu. He also awarded a special mention to Louis de Chazal who, though not quite making it into the top 3, was the only Lower School student present and played his bassoon admirably. Well done to all performers and many thanks to the staff and Professor Caird.
