Representatives of The Worshipful Company of Horners joined ASP staff and Science Ambassadors to deliver a Science Opens Doors workshop for pupils from the Ogden Trust Abingdon Primary Science Partnership.

Working in small teams, the primary pupils designed hand on demos and explanations of science questions such as 'What is a cell?', 'What is an acid?' or 'What is electricity?'. During the afternoon, the teams investigated ways of explaining the answers and then, after an excellent tea from the Catering Department, showed their demonstrations to their parents when they came to pick them up.

The Science Opens Doors initiative is being supported by the Horners' Company as a result of research showing that encouraging more young people to consider STEM related careers also depends on informing parents of the importance of STEM subjects and the careers available to their children.

ASP was really pleased to be able to offer its facilities for this pilot workshop especially as the Horners representatives were so impressed by the outcome that they will now be investigating how to use this as a model for a national programme.
