Last Thursday marked the first planning session for a selection of sixth form Science Academic Mentors from John Mason, Fitzharrys, Larkmead and Abingdon. The aim of this session was to introduce the 18 pupils to the basics of teaching a good science lesson. It was also the first opportunity for the mentors to meet each other in the subject areas of Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Following this and next week’s up-skilling sessions the mentors will be teaching specific subject areas to Key Stage 4 students. This week Mr Fisher was talking on ‘What makes a good science lesson?’ The mentors can look forward to next week’s session which will be led by Mr Southwell-Sander on ‘How to teach an engaging lesson?’ and Mr Thomas talking about the ASDAN leadership award each student will earn if they complete the course.
