This week in Lower School Science Club, the students were given samples of five mysterious ionic compounds (salts) to identify using flame tests. They demonstrated a rainbow of colours, from lilac for potassium ions, to crimson for lithium ions. Mr Goodman then demonstrated a ‘dragon’s breath’ flame test for each of the ions, and the students used what they learned to identify each compound.
