Half term has once again highlighted the breadth, quality and spirit of rugby at Abingdon School. From national festivals and regional tours to academy selections and development opportunities, our pupils have embraced every challenge with passion, commitment, courage, and creativity – the four core values that underpin Abingdon Rugby.

U14 Bristol & Bath Tour

Our U14s enjoyed an outstanding few days in the South West, combining competitive rugby with valuable experiences off the field. The tour featured fixtures against QEH Bristol, KES Bath and Beechen Cliff School, all of which provided excellent opposition and a warm welcome.

On the pitch, the players produced a series of energetic and skilful performances, demonstrating improved understanding of game shape, contact skills, and teamwork across the group. Off the pitch, they immersed themselves in activities such as ten-pin bowling, kayaking, go-karting, and sightseeing around Bath, building lasting friendships and strengthening the team’s culture.

U15 Langley School National Rugby Festival

Meanwhile, our U15 squad travelled to Norfolk to take part in the prestigious Langley School National Rugby Festival, a high-level competition bringing together some of the strongest rugby schools from across the country. The team performed superbly across a demanding schedule, finishing as Vase Runners-Up. A fantastic achievement that reflects their growing cohesion and competitive edge. The squad showed great resilience, teamwork, and adaptability across multiple matches, continually building on their performances. Their progress across the festival mirrored the strides made throughout this season, underpinned by a growing collective belief and an excellent team ethos.

Representative Rugby Honours

Abingdon’s rugby pathway opportunities continues to flourish, with several senior pupils achieving representative honours over the break. Charlie and Luca were selected for the Oxfordshire U18 squad, while 1st XV Captain Ned, together with Lower Sixth pupils Conor and Henry, represented the Gloucester Rugby Academy in the Premiership Rugby NextGen fixtures against Exeter Chiefs Academy. These pupils set an outstanding example for the younger age groups, showing that elite performance and humility go hand in hand.

These half term experiences capture the essence of Abingdon School Rugby – a programme that places equal value on personal growth, shared experiences, and competitive ambition. As the Michaelmas term resumes, the focus turns to building on the strong start to the season across all age groups, with some cracking fixtures over the next month.
