The opening half of the rugby season has been exceptional, a celebration of teamwork, commitment, and shared purpose across every age group.
Over 350 pupils have proudly represented Abingdon this term, taking part in more than 80 matches across 18 teams from U12 to U18. The scale of participation and enthusiasm reflects the health and spirit of the club, with students of all abilities contributing to what has been a hugely positive start to the season.
Fixtures against leading rugby schools, including RGS High Wycombe, Solihull, and Marlborough College, have showcased both the quality of play and the strength of our shared culture. The standard of rugby, sportsmanship and camaraderie has been outstanding throughout.
Our 1st XV have made history, remaining unbeaten in the first half of term. The first time this has happened in over 25 years. They have shown consistency, maturity, and resilience in every performance, leading from the front and inspiring younger year groups across the club. Alongside them, the 2nd, 3rd, 16A and 16C XVs also finish the half term unbeaten, reflecting the growing depth, cohesion and confidence within the programme.
Yet beyond results, what truly stands out is the sense of community and pride that underpins everything we do. Whether it’s younger pupils supporting senior teams, staff coaching collaboratively, or parents creating such a positive match day environment, rugby at Abingdon continues to thrive on its values of Passion, Commitment, Courage and Creativity.
The momentum continues into the break, with our U14s touring Bristol and Bath, and our U15s representing the school at the Langley School National Festival. After half term, we look forward to welcoming Eton College for the return fixture and to our block against Radley College, where the 1st XV will also compete in Round 3 of the U18 Continental Tyres National Cup, a special double header that promises to be a highlight of the season.
A heartfelt thank you goes to all pupils, parents, and staff for their incredible energy, commitment and support throughout this busy and successful term.
We also look forward to the Touchliners Social on Friday 7 November at Loose Cannon Brewery, a brilliant opportunity for parents, staff and friends of Abingdon Rugby to come together and celebrate the season so far. (See last week’s Weekly Mailing for the sign-up link.)
Abingdon Rugby is in a fantastic place, united by shared purpose, friendships, and a genuine love for the game.
