23 November 2018
The Senior rowers have had a strong November so far. Off the back of a really productive camp out in Banyoles, Spain, the Boat Club took four crews to the Fours’ Head of the River on the Boat Race course in London.
The highlight of the day was the crew of Matthew Bell, Joe McConnell, Ed Sharp, Charlie Hall and cox Noah Walker coming away with the win in the Junior 4+ category for the first time in ten years, with another Abingdon crew also coming 5th in the same event. This added to already strong finish positions of 3rd in Junior 4xs, and 9th in Junior 4-s.
At the first GB Junior trials in singles, eight senior rowers travelled up to Boston in Lincolnshire to compete against the best in the country. Captain of Boats Connor Brown came away with the highest finish of 27th in some testing headwind conditions. Vice-Captain Daniel Wilmot was 43rd, Ed Sharp 72nd, Charlie Hall 90th, Tom Symington 107th, Joe McConnell 113th, Matthew Wiblin 138th and Josh Rundle 140th after injury. A good line in the sand for the boys, to look to step on from at the next trials in February.
This weekend sees two matched Senior crews racing at Wallingford Head, as well as two matched J16 crews. Alum Rob Harris will also be racing, having been selected in one of two Cambridge University crews.
