The Lent term Rugby Sevens programme finished with the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens in London. This year was the largest competition ever. Over 5,000 pupils took part from U13 up to U18. The majority of schools were from the UK, but some came from New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and Dubai to take part. Our U14, U16, and U18 teams all competed at Rosslyn.

The highlight of the week was our 1st VII reaching the day 2 knock-out stages for the second year in a row. Their first two day 2 matches were streamed live on YouTube, with narrow losses against a strong Dubai school, who were eventual runners-up, as well as Blundell’s School, who were this year’s National Schools Cup 15-a-side semi-finalists.

The final day 2 group match was against George Watson’s College, who were ranked 2nd this year in Scotland. The 1st VII beat them meaning Abingdon finished in the top 21 out of 216 schools. This achievement is the best ever by an Abingdon School 1st VII since SOCS records began in 1999.
