The Year 3 class from Carswell School came to the Science Partnership Lab last week and took part in a workshop on Rocks, Soil and Fossils. They were very excited to be in the lab in their lab coats and immediately got stuck into examining different rock samples. They had already learned about the different types of rock back at their school so it was good for them to get some hands-on experience of looking at the features of different rocks. They then moved on to investigating different types of soil and enjoyed mixing mud and water and leaving it to settle so that they could examine the different components of soil before filtering it and drawing what they could see. Finally they learned about how fossils form in sedimentary rock and that fossilised remains of prehistoric creatures have been found in Abingdon.
