Sixth former, Jake Wallis, has been working over the summer on a project to monitor air quality. The aim of the project was to enable primary schools in the Abingdon area to measure the quality of the air in their school and local community, in the hope of collecting valuable data on the air pollution levels in different places across Abingdon and the surrounding area. Over the summer, we tested the sensor, which was made up of a Raspberry Pi (a small computer) and an air quality sensor that measured the particulate matter in the air and then uploaded the data. The next steps are to distribute these sensors around to the ten primary schools that are part of the scheme, and then for the pupils to set them up with guidance from older Abingdon pupils.
