The Yang Science Centre's outdoor learning spaces were put to excellent use at this week's Primary Science Club with Science Ambassadors leading a session of pond dipping in the rill at the front of the building.
The plants in the rill have really established themselves now, with beautiful, yellow irises beginning to bloom. The pond dipping revealed that animal life has also moved in, with many interesting species identified via the pond life identification sheets and studied under microscopes in the lab.
Nymphs, water boatmen and leeches were all amongst the favourite specimens found. The children were very impressed by the environmental protocols, not harming any of the creatures and ensuring that all were returned to their habitat after the session.
