Abingdon Science Partnership and the Oxford International Biomedical Centre jointly hosted a fascinating day with 60 students from Abingdon, St Helen's, Larkmead, Bicester Technology Studio, Sir William Borlase's Grammar and Shiplake Schools discussing the issue of risks to humanity with leading academic experts in the field.

Lectures were delivered on The Dark Side of Technology, Microbial Attack, Asteroid Impact and The Rise of Dictatorship. The students also got to discuss the issues with the presenters in smaller groups and then feed back their ideas and observations to the audience.

Following the symposium, the students will work in teams to submit a poster on the topic 'Is there a Plan-et B?' with the three best posters to be displayed at a presentation event at Oxford University's Future of Humanity Institute next year.
