Fifteen third year students travelled to Oxford to the new Blavatnik School of Government. We were shown round this stunning building by Mr Neil Lawson of Geothermal International Energy, the firm which had installed the ground source heat pumps to heat the building in winter and to cool it in summer. We visited the plant room and learnt how the heat pumps worked and how they produce 4kW of heat energy for every 1kW of electrical energy used. He also explained some of the politics involved in getting effective green energy for the UK.
