The Peer Support Leads have been busy supporting younger students and getting together with PSLs in partner schools this term after their successful recruitment and introduction into the role in Spring. They are now embedded in the mentoring role and provide support around school via 1-1s, assemblies, tutor time and whole school presentations on topics such as Anti Bullying and International Men’s Day.

This term has seen two training sessions with partner school students on ‘Managing Anxiety’ and ‘The Teenage Brain.’ Both sessions provided helpful insight into these areas along with practical tips on how to support a younger student and a chance to reflect on scenarios with their peers.

Regular PSL meetings provide a chance for students to reflect on their experiences and review their 1-1 sessions. They continue to work with maturity and insight into some challenging areas of need.

One of the PSLs said ‘I’m really enjoying my PSL role so far. The training with other schools has been incredibly beneficial and has given me a strong foundation to apply in my mentoring. I’ve also found the support I provide to mentees particularly rewarding, by helping them think through challenges and develop their own ideas for handling different situations. Overall, it’s been a great opportunity to develop my personal skills while making a meaningful difference within the school community.’

This award winning programme continues to provide enhanced pastoral support and mentoring opportunities across our schools and benefits all involved. The partnership element allows for a diversity of perspective and support, and the chance for students to hear from new and different voices.
