Congratulations to Abingdon upper sixth former, David Bicarregui, who at Saturday’s performance of Puccini’s La Bohème at the Oxford Playhouse, was the recipient of this year’s award made by the founder of Oxford Opera, Stuart Pendred, to the young musician who showed the most dedication, determination and outstanding potential as a future opera singer.
Oxford Opera is a new professional company in Oxford which also reaches out to local organisations with young musicians who are provided with exciting opportunities to be part of the chorus in their productions. David joined their award-winning production of Carmen last year and was delighted to sing in this year’s production of Puccini’s La Bohème.
David is a singer, composer, flautist and pianist who will be the soloist next week in Chopian’s 2nd Piano Concerto with the school orchestra. He hopes to study music in Manchester next year where he has an offer for the prestigious joint course at Manchester University and the Royal College of Music.
