Lower school boys today took part in the One Day Film School. Under the expert guidance of two professional tutors, they found out more about the history of film making, watching clips from classic films such as Battleship Potemkin, Singing in the Rain, and Charlie Chaplin's The Kid, they learnt about the elements essential for a good plot (goal, obstacle, characters, and character development), and tried their hand at fight choreography with all 128 boys taking it in turns to punch each other on Upper Field!

The afternoon saw the boys planning and then making their own 10-shot silent movies around the school grounds, testing their teamwork and communication skills while also having to meet a very tight deadline. The films were then screened for all the boys to enjoy with Deputy Head, Mr May, on hand to announce the winner of the Oscar.

Winning director, Charles Maddison said of his film Cash Grab: “Despite a few creative differences initially, the group was soon able to band together to create our winning piece. I found the whole experience really fun.”

The day was made possible thanks to a donation by the Second Hand Uniform Shop to The Annual Fund.
