At the start of the half term break the Boat Club travelled to Dorney Lake for this year’s National Schools Regatta. One of the highlights of the season, it provided fierce competition and super tight racing. Abingdon had 11 crews racing this year from J14 up to J18.

The J14 rowers got their first taste of national competition and the J15s got to race the full 2000m having done 1000m last year. It was also the final time racing at this regatta for our Upper Sixth rowers and it was great to see a 3rd eight of leavers taking to the course.

With some really good performances, the standout results went to the Fourth Year rowers who came home with bronze medals in both the J15 1st and 2nd eights events. Placing top three in the country is quite an achievement and it is testament to their focus and commitment as well as the brilliant coaching of Mr Strange and Mr Price.

A big thank you also goes to FASBC for all their efforts on the bank and with the hospitality. The shouts with 600m to go were very much appreciated and perfectly located as the crews geared up for their final sprint.
